When viewing the Bible of Ethiopia the first time it appears to very old and created with care. The text and illustrations appear to be handmade. The colors are still vivid and each page seems to be telling a story and sequence of events.
The text was written in red and black ink. One each page it is used with black text it seems to indicate important items. The first page contrasts to the other pages in that it is mainly text and lacks the ornate decorations around the columns and borders of the text. This may indicate it is separate from the others pages much like a preface or introduction.
Each page after the initial page consists of pictures and text surrounded by ornate pictures and borders. It appears the illustrations are done in the same style throughout the book due to the clothing, colors and style.
The alignment of the columns of text when red text is used is interesting to me. At first I assumed these were subtitles. They could be but it is interesting that they are aligned across columns. This may indicate each column are alike in content formatting.
The proximity of text to some pictures indicates these are probably captions and help to explain the pictures.
The authors/artists of this book showed care and consistency throughout the book. If it was created by more than one person, they took care in creating a document that works as one book. There are seals, ornate decorations as well as halos around the faces of the illustrated people to indicate this is an important book trying to convey an important story.
